When it comes to date marking foods to ensure freshness,
many foodservice operations use inadequate labeling systems,
if any at all.
Here are the 5 most common problems inspectors see that move
them to recommend convenient, effective FreshMarx date marking
products.

 |
#1--Tape
Using tape to record dates on food packaging
opens the door to numerous food safety violations. Often, tape
falls off. In other cases, it adheres too strongly to the container
and leaves behind an adhesive residue that won't wash off. This
leftover glue is a trap for bacteria and, when containers are
stacked, it can cross-contanimate. |
 |
#2--Multiple
Labels
It's not unusual to see more than one label
on the same container. If they each offer conflicting information,
none of them offers anything at all. |
 |
#3--Illegible
Messages
If the surface of the label is not conducive
to writing, the information could smear or be lost to condensation or washing. |
 |
#4--Confusing
Systems
Makeshift labeling systems can cause confusion
among multiple staff members. In cases like these, inspectors often find preparation and expiration dates do not
coincide. |
 |
#5--Confusing
Labels
Without a simple format on the label itself, employees can read and record information differently. This
leads to inconsistencies. |
